IberBlue Wind and Portuguese research centre MARE sign collaboration agreement
IberBlue Wind have announced collaboration agreement with MARE, Centro de Ciências do Mar e do Ambiente, a Portuguese organization for scientific research, technological development and innovation, with the aim of minimizing the impact of offshore wind farms on marine environment.
IberBlue Wind will collaborate with MARE in the development of scientific activities related to the study of aquatic ecosystems, innovation activities, knowledge transfer and other training and scientific dissemination activities. This activity will allow the design of solutions that guarantee the coexistence of the installations with the natural environment of the area where they are installed, reducing their impact on the marine life and promoting the sustainability of fishing activity.
The alliance between the two entities will focus on the development of offshore wind farms planned by IberBlue Wind in this country. "Botafogo", off the coast of Figueira da Foz, in the Portuguese district of Coimbra, with an installed capacity of 990 MW, this wind farm would occupy an area of 359 square kilometers and "Creoula", located near the municipality of Viana do Castelo, with an installed capacity of 1,440 MW and a surface area of 413 square kilometers. Together, both projects could supply energy to more than 1.6 million homes.
The signing of the agreement was attended by the director of MARE, Pedro Raposo; Enrique de Faragó, Manuel Monteiro and Tiago Morais representing IberBlue Wind; researchers José Lino Costa and Bernardo Quintella; and Hugo Miranda, member of the Scientific Directorate of ULisboa.
IberBlue Wind is a partnership comprised of the Spanish companies Proes Consultores, the engineering division of the Amper Group, and FF New Energy Ventures (FF NEV), a renewable energy project developer; and the Irish Simply Blue Group, a blue economy developer predominantly focused on offshore wind, sustainable fuels, marine energy, carbon dioxide removal and low-impact aquaculture.
