IberBlue Wind holds a meeting with local stakeholders in Figueira da Foz
On July 13, the Portuguese town of Figueira da Foz hosted the private event “Eólica Offshore Flutuante na região Centro de Portugal” organized by IberBlue Wind. The objective of the meeting was to analyze the opportunities offered by offshore wind energy and to publicize Botafogo, the floating offshore windfarm that IberBlue Wind projects in the region and which will have an installed capacity of 990MW.
It was also a space for dialogue with the different stakeholders involved in the project, with the presence of more than 50 attendees, including representatives of non-governmental associations, industry sector, the environment, tourism and fishermen's associations. local.
Likewise, the act had important institutional support, both municipal and academic, with the assistance of the President of the Municipal Chamber of Figueira da Foz, Pedro Miguel Santana Lopes and the vice-rector of the Universidade de Coimbra for the Figueira da Foz campus, Nuno Mendonça, who was in charge of opening the event.
Floating offshore wind experience
Botafogo floating offshore wind farm will be installed off the coast of Figueira da Foz, in the District of Coimbra. The project, named after the great Portuguese warship of the 16th century, will be made up of 55 wind turbines of 18MW each, will supply energy to more than 670,000 homes a year and will involve an estimated investment of more than 2,500 million euros from the development phase to the construction phase.
During the meeting, the person in charge of Development of Floating Offshore Wind in Portugal at IberBlue Wind, Thiago Morais, explained the details of the project and presented the consortium that promotes it, made up of the Irish company Simply Blue Group and the Spanish companies Proes Consultores and FF New Energy. Ventures. In his speech, he highlighted their experience in the floating wind power sector, key in a market like the Portuguese one, which has decided to face the challenge of becoming a benchmark in the development of offshore wind power with determination.
To close the event, Dr. Joao Neto, representative of the MAREFOZ laboratory, gave a lecture on "Potential impact of the development of sanctuaries and artificial reefs in offshore wind projects." MAREFOZ is an organization that, through the University of Coimbra, contributes to the sustainable development of the region and the implementation of the Blue Economy.
